Codici is the Italian word for codes. The word, in many ways, is descriptive of the contemporary calligraphy research that places emphasis on the visual rather than the verbal message. Codici 1 is the first in a series of books (more like journals or notebooks) on modern calligraphy by Thomas Ingmire. The series will attempt to address the questions and explore the many issues related to contemporary calligraphy research. The first notebook draws primarily from Thomas Ingmire's teaching program titled "Moving Towards a 21st-Century Calligraphy." It presents the assignments, support materials, the works created by the students, as well as images and brief discussions of his own recent works that relate to the program.
